What could my net worth be in 20 years?
Project net worth forward from today: a starting figure, an amount added each month, and a yearly return you state, compounded monthly. The result separates the money put in from the growth on it, and shows the total in today's dollars too.
$560,000 put in, $795,102 growth
Each month: the balance × (1 + 6.00% ÷ 12), then $1,500 added at the end of the month, for 240 months.
This projects the numbers entered at a constant rate. Real returns vary year to year, and the order of good and bad years changes the result. See every account, property and entity measured together →

Questions
- Why is the result not a forecast?
- It is arithmetic on the numbers entered: one return, the same every year. Real returns vary from year to year, and the order of good and bad years changes the result even when the average is the same. The projection shows where stated assumptions lead, not where markets will go.
- What does today's dollars mean?
- The projected figure is in future dollars, which buy less as prices rise. Dividing it by inflation compounded over the same years gives what that amount would buy at today's prices. At 3% a year, a dollar twenty years from now buys about what 55 cents buys today.
- Why split money put in from growth?
- Net worth can rise because more money went in or because the money that went in earned something. The split separates the two. The same idea, measured on real accounts with dated deposits, is the money-weighted return, which the XIRR calculator works out.
- Does home equity count?
- If it is part of the starting net worth, yes: home value minus the mortgage balance is an asset like any other. Whether to include it is a choice; the Academy's home equity lesson explains how it is measured.
- How does this relate to the runway calculator?
- They look in opposite directions. This one adds money each month and projects the total forward; the runway calculator draws cash down each month and measures how long it lasts.
Read Modeling your net worth twenty years out and What did your money actually return? in the Journal, or see net worth, compound interest and home equity in the Academy. The XIRR calculator measures the return on real dated deposits; the runway calculator measures how long cash lasts.

Net worth, measured from every account
Eudos measures net worth from every account, property and entity, and the return on the money actually put in, so the starting figure comes from the ledger rather than an estimate. It is in an invite-only beta; leave an email to join the waitlist.
